When someone dies in Colorado

Certified copies come from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Vital Records, or your local Vital Records office (official site).

As of January 1, 2026 the first copy is $25 and additional copies are $20 each. Use your nearest local Vital Records office if you can: the state office is appointment only with no walk-in service. Online orders through VitalChek or GoCertificates add a surcharge and normal processing is thirty business days from receipt, so plan well ahead or go in person. Mail applications need a copy of your current valid photo ID.
