Certified copies come from the Alabama Department of Public Health, Center for Health Statistics, or any county health department (official site).
You can walk into ANY county health department in Alabama, not just the one where the death occurred, and most death certificates are issued while you wait. That is the fastest route by far. The $15 search fee includes one certified copy, additional copies ordered at the same time are $6 each, and expediting costs another $15. By mail it takes about 7 to 10 days to the Center for Health Statistics, P.O. Box 5625, Montgomery, AL 36103-5625, with a check or money order, never cash. Fees are not refundable.
